Who are we?
The two Proctors for each year are elected by the Regent House and admitted to office by the Vice-Chancellor in Congregation on 1 October (unless a Sunday). Two pre-elected Pro-Proctors (normally the expected Proctors for next year) are also admitted. Two pre-elected additional Pro-Proctors (usually the retiring Proctors) are then further elected as Deputy Proctors; further Deputy Proctors may also be elected.
The wider Senate-House team includes the University Marshal and Vice-Marshal, the University Constables, the Esquire Bedells, and the Clerk to the Proctors and Marshal’s Secretary.

The Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor have the power to appoint and swear constables under the Universities Act 1825. Once appointed, University Constables have the powers of constables, within the precincts of the University and four miles around.
The principal function of the University Constabulary is to assist the Proctors, in both their free speech and good order functions and their ceremonial functions. The University Marshal and Vice-Marshal are responsible for routine administration.
There are normally between twenty and thirty University Constables, who serve part-time. The names of all current Constables are as follows:
Landi Ager | Michael Arnold | Tony Barnfield | Kim Beazor | Rachel Begbie | Joy Broker | Ray Butler | Kipp Cooper | John Cox | Lena Dahlen-Pledger | Linda Dennis | Phil Dennis | Roger Fensom | Lorraine Fernandez | Jenny Hyams | Patricia Knight | Priti Ladwa | Martyn Laud | Jo Milton | Steve Morgan | Gerry Norden | Judith Surry | Tricia Sutton | Mark Whitehead | Simon Whittaker
